I have found a fairly large number of threads about duplicate (album) artist names, most of them did not end on a a good solution. I have spend a large number of hours being stumped on this issue until I just noticed a strange coincidence. Those artists that no matter what you do, can't get to display once, all most seem to have a discrepancy with MusicBrainz. I have disabled MusicBrainz as much as Jellyfin allows me to, but this still happens.
Here is a duplicate Artist, with same name. The MP3 file is a single file, and correctly tagged. There are no other files in the library with this name.
Clicking on "Identify", we see something interesting, there are two, or three (not sure what the "1976"-entry is) artists with the same name.
I can't conclusively say that this is the reason, but it could be related. In this case clicking the middle entry removed the duplicate, but I this is a bit (very) random, and I have no idea what I just did, by doing this. Especially, since I don't want to do any MusicBrainz lookups, as all files are correctly tagged, there is no need for doing any lookups.
Here is another case that happens every now and then. There are two entries with a different stylization. In this case "PYLOT" and "Pylot". I noticed that MusicBrainz is not always concequent in it's stylization. Another reason I prefer that Jellyfin just follows my tags, I typically tend to follow the artists stylization. In this case I suspect there may be entries in MusicBrainz in both stylizations.
In this case the "Identify" button indeed shows two entries. But this time, clicking the desired name "PYLOT" does nothing.
Here is a case where the artist name is written exactly the same, and only one MusicBrainz entry is shown when clicking "Identify" (making my case weaker, since there seems to be no duplicate Musicbrainz entry):
It doesn't occur too often, but often enough to be annoying.
Any insights or fixes are very welcome!
