I run Channels DVR on an Unraid Server and wanted to also test out JellyFin and Emby.
I created a hefty channel playlist using an online M3U/XMLTV editor. For channels in the playlist, I captured the following EPG information:
Start and ending time
Title
Live Tag
New Tag
Secondary title
Description
Season and episode
Categories

Age classification
Test 1: Guide refresh after making changes to playlist
Channels DVR. I did a guide refresh which finished in under 20 seconds. Changes reflected in the guide listings right away.
Emby. I did a guide refresh which finished in right under a minute. Changes reflected in the guide listings.
Jellyfin. I did a guide refresh which took over 5 minutes. Changes may or may not reflet in guide listings right away.
Test 2: TV Shows Season and Episode Information
Channels DVR picked up the season and episode information for a particular show in the guide information. I started and canceled a short show recording. Channels DVR created a folder for the show and also put the show in a season folder. The show had its show name and episode number.
Emby picked up the season and episode information for a particular show in the guide information. I started and canceled a short show recording. Emby created a folder for the show and also put the show in a season folder. The show had its show name and episode number.
Since Jellyfin took forever to refresh the guide, I deleted the XMLTV file and started over. Jellyfin did not pick up the season and episode information for a particular show in the guide information. I started and canceled a short show recording anyway. Jellyfin created a folder for the show and also put the show in a season folder called "Season Unknown". The show was placed in that folder with the show name, but no episode number.
The only way I could get Jellyfin to display a show's season and episode number in the guide information was if I went into my online editing tool's EPG settings and set it so that the season and show information was included at the beginning of the description. However, by doing it that way, Jellyfin doesn't seem to pass that information to recorded shows for the proper show, season and episode folder/file structure.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Has anyone been able to resolve it?
I actually like all of these 3 programs and am actually looking to move away from Plex. I honestly only have Plex because my family members have used it for so long.
