So recently ive been having an issue with jellyfin duplicating every season of every tv show. The episodes all work and even redirect to the correct playback point. I havent found a reliable way to fix it, but I think I know what causes it. Any change to a pre existing show seems to trigger it for all shows.
    Setup
    - version 10.8.10
    - LXC with Ubuntu 23
    - remote media through nfs
    - standard guide naming scheme
    - media is not spread across multiple shares
    - nfo for metadata
    - plugins jellyscrub, youtubemetadata

Ill get some good logs tomorrow but I wanna get this out and see if anyone has any ideas or troubleshooting steps

What does your file system organization look like?

So I did some more testing and it seems to be triggered by addition of shows by sonar. I have sonar metadata .nfo files disabled but that hasnt fixed it. I found a way to remove the duplicate seasons by refreshing all metadata but it returns when new shows/episodes are added.

Let me do a little digging. You may need to set things up so that only one of the two is fiddling with info.

Okay, so Sonarr handles metadata for me, I have Jellyfin's metadata refreshing turned off. I found Sonarr did a better job and handling that end of things for me. Could this be partially due to the fact that you have two different naming conventions going on here? Your episodes are zero-padded while your season folders are not. There might be something more than that going on, but without looking at more of a snapshot of folder trees, the library config in Jellyfin, and maybe even the media config in Sonarr, it may be hard to diagnose the issue. Lots of cooks in the kitchen on this one.

EDIT: Something to note is that if you have Sonarr create the structure that Jellyfin expects (including zero-padded season folders -- and it can do this automatically), you can also have it create NFO files and scrape images for you that Jellyfin can use and it'll put them in the right locations as well. So I have Sonarr handle all of that, put everything in the right spot, I turn off metadata refreshing entirely, but Jellyfin will still fetch missing images (I allow for several fanart, banner, backdrop, etc... images per series/movie). It's a pretty neat setup that has been working for probably the last 2+ years for me.

Not a bad idea ill probably give it a shot, also strangely when I zero padded my seasons I got a similar duplicate issue but that was likely sonarr metadata messing with stuff again, plus I hate the look of zero padded seasons on the webpage.

So far my current fix is to disable sonarr metadata and have jellyfin handle everything, I still had to enable merge series across folders, but sonarr can add new shows without any issue. I changed my episode naming to be exactly what jellyfin wants as well just to be safe.
