Long time mythtv user, learned about jellyfin over the weekend - I am so impressed.

In mythTV, hdhr devices can read transmitted EIT (program schedule) and populate that into the database - link.

Is this possible in jellyfin, or must we setup other sources for guide data?

AFAIK, no. The programming schedule is retrieved from external sources.

I only use IPTV sources, so maybe I'm wrong about how Jellyfin works with OTA sources. But that's my understand from the documentation and old reddit threads I can find.

    https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/live-tv/#guide
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

There is an XMLTV guide server you can run locally here https://github.com/iptv-org/epg

    Within JF? No

But you could use EPG Collector for that
