    I am having some issues in having Jellyfin recognize correctly external subtitles for films.

    For some, all external subtitles are shown correctly, e.g.;

    Code:
    $ ls Beauty\ and\ the\ Beast\ \(1991\)/
    'Beauty and the Beast (1991) WEBDL-1080p.cs.srt'  'Beauty and the Beast (1991) WEBDL-1080p.it.srt'
    'Beauty and the Beast (1991) WEBDL-1080p.en.srt'  'Beauty and the Beast (1991) WEBDL-1080p.mkv'

    For others they are not shown:

    Code:
    $ ls The\ Lion\ King\ \(1994\)/
    'The Lion King (1994) WEBDL-1080p.cs.srt'  'The Lion King (1994) WEBDL-1080p.it.srt'
    'The Lion King (1994) WEBDL-1080p.en.srt'  'The Lion King (1994) WEBDL-1080p.mkv'

    And for some only part of the external subtitles is being listed, even if they are all in the same path and follow the same naming convention.

    I have tried refreshing the film's metadata, re-scanning the whole library and re-starting Jellyfin. Yet, not dice.

    Any Idea why would that be? Thanks!

    Bonus question: any idea where the subs placed in "/var/lib/jellyfin/metadata/library/" are coming from? Those are not the ones I have downloaded.

    Double check the file permissions on your subs.

    The subs in /var/lib/jellyfin/metadata/library/ are where Jellyfin stores embedded subtitles that it extracted.
