Trying to use Display Order for a TV show, but it's inconsistent.  First of all, I'm not actually sure which order it's going to pull since the names in the drop down don't match the names in TMDB.  My best guess is that it matches the "type" of an episode group, but not sure what happens if there are multiple groups of the same type.  In any case, The Transformers (G1) doesn't have a correct order (DVD is production order, which isn't actually the correct chronological).  So I created a new order that is correct, and made it a "Story Arc" type.  But when I select that in Jellyfin it doesn't seem to pull it.  And even when I swap between DVD and Original Air Date, I get some inconsistencies, with not all episodes in the right order.  I'm doing a "replace all metadata" refresh on just the series.  Is there a better way to do this, or does it just not work properly?

I believe the behavior is to select the first result for a group type. What determines which is first? No idea.

Is TVDB's available orders correct? Perhaps use TVDB over TMDB?

My best experience with getting correct metadata & play order for incorrect Series identification is to use the TVdB. Make sure you have the plugin installed, select it as the first metadata agent in your Tv Series libraray & then go to the TVdB website to find the correct naming for episodes. Rename your episodes accordingly & rescan library. If you want to customize the "play order" once the media is correctly identified, use the 3 dots menu to the far right of each episode to change season/episode order.
    Cheers & hope this helps,

Does the Story Arc type just not work then?  Because the one I want is the only one with a Story Arc type but it's not pulling it.  I would try to investigate the logs to see what it's trying to do but not seeing anything there either.

TVDB isn't quite right either.  And even if it was, there would still be the issue of figuring which order it's pulling since the Jellyfin interface doesn't show what's actually available.

TVDB isn't quite right either, and also not sure how to match up the order with the Jellyfin interface.  For customizing the order, to clarify, you change the Season and Episode number in each episode metadata?  And that doesn't make it update the metadata during a rescan?

Well now its picking up the Story Arc order! I don't know if I just had to wait longer after that order was added or not? But at least it's right now. Now I have to make sure my files are actually in the right order. Maybe one day I'll find some time to rewrite the episode ordering code in Jellyfin so you can swap between orders without changing filenames...more than likely I'll just be satisfied with this!

You would need to rescan and replace all metadata, IIRC, to get the new order to show up immediately.

I did that every time.  Multiple attempts.  It worked for the DVD/airdate (though there were some weird inconsistencies), but it didn't work for the new Story Arc episode until today.  And I just made some changes to the Story Arc in TMDB but it's still not picking it up in Jellyfin.  Seems that the API doesn't make it available right away, but no idea how long.

In my expirence, any time i make changes to TMDB, TVDB, etc.
Despite my changes showing up immediately on the webpage,
I believe there is some DB replication that takes place in the background.
(the DB which for the API is allowed to call from)
I always try to wait 24 -48 hours after changes.

Then I go back to refreshing/troubleshooting my Jellyfin side.

I just did this last night actually, made some updates in TVDB,
and a few minutes ago, refreshed my metadata in jellyfin,
    and now my changes show.

Yeah, seems that's the case.  Even now that order is there, anytime I make an update to it, it takes awhile before I can pull it into Jellyfin.  At least it works though!  Now to get TMDB to unlock the Specials season so I can add missing specials...

I added another new movie, and it shows up in Jellyfin, except none of the posters added are showing up. It's also not pulling in the release date / year. The title and content description are fine though. Really weird.
