Ok, senior here raising 2 toddlers and this foray into linux because billy bob wants us buy new equipment and can't do that right now lol. Anyway, I new to linux, using mint 22. It seems fine, journey trying to learn to do things however.

I had tried other programs and had same problem with libraries not showing up when adding files etc.. none of the others worked at all. Jellyfin partially worked. I was successful to get some files working. Partial libraries in movie and tv shows. They are all showing up together, mostly in folder view but also in the movie directory.

I tried to add music to the library just to try and learn exactly where the files were and permissions etc.  I have added and deleted library with directory, such as /media/Music /home/user/Music etc etc.. but nothing seems to work...

I had tried putting user and jellyfin into each other group and then was when some movie files came in... which was nice and big accomplishment but boom could not replicate or get the files sorted right in movie directory. It just jumbles all of it together, movies shows etc... I thought well if I get music added correctly maybe I could go back and get other done correctly

But for life of me I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  Really trying lol... all is new for old senior new on linux lol.

Anyway, files are not updating in library, no matter where i put them and add them.... file names don't seem to matter, least made little difference in the movies directory.  So it must be permissions and users and groups again i guess.

    Any help and thoughts appreciated....

    My head hurts lol..

I thought it would be nice to serve some things to the roku for the two toddlers we are raising, try that on social security lol...

I thank you for help ahead of time...

be gentle on older man lol

    don

p.s. I tried to search for this as I figured it was already here but the search for library and linux and mint etc etc did not find anything, Need spine surgery so time in chair is limited, sorry, i am sure there are many threads for this but i could not find them with search.........

Sounds like a permission issue, try following the Linux permissions primer post here: https://forum.jellyfin.org/t-mounting-lo...ons-primer

Will read thru it thanks. I tried adding user to jellyfin and vice versa, put em in group, each other and setting both to read n write but using sudo nemeo which supposed to let u set for all files in directory but I have feeling it not really doing it so well. I added library and the directories. But it acting weird. Like things show up in folder view but not show all the music as example. I did notice the hourglass search tool for library does not work so u have to paste or type library path. So there some bugs in this jelly for sure with this mint 22.
Not sure how to force newest jellyfin or if I lose everything lol.
Wish it was as simple just poing to directories and work lol.

I thank u for helping me

    Don
