I think it would be a great idea to allow my users to create scene based comments that can be viewed by other users.

    Example attached

Watching movies alone just isnt the same, and this feature would bring some of the comradery to the solo viewing experience.

    FAQ:
No, you cannot turn them off

I know youre half joking, but I honestly love this. I think the neatest part of Jellyfin is the connection with your users (because for me, and a lot of admins Im assuming, we're sharing with family and friends, filling requests, watching together and then talking about it). I really think we could use more plugins that lean into this close-closed-circle social aspect. Newsletter, Requests are great but they feel kinda one way. Hmm..

Somwhat relatedly; we do have the "send message" ability under active devices in the dashboard. It could def use some formatting work but the ability to break-in and overlay text Is already there.. Ooo it supports emoji!

So, just brainstorming; to get it to do what youre proposing would take a little work, mostly from the side of altering the player: giving users a new button while paused in playback to leave a comment. All comments could be stored in a text file beside the media. Those comments could be flagged with a timecode for start and stop, and rather than ask the player to do anything, I'd offload the display of comments to jellyfin server which sends the message when the user reaches those timecodes in the media. It feels pretty achievable, but I dont know if my users would really use it enough to devote time to. Still love it.

The current "send message" ability only works on web-based clients. So if an admin sends a message to a client like MPV Shim or an Android TV client, the users of those will not see the message.

Basically, only those on a browser, the Android phone app, and the Jellyfin Media Player will see that message pop up.

Also, what you guys are asking for is basically the same concept as the Niconico Douga commenting system: https://thebridge.jp/en/2013/02/niconico-douga

That's not correct. This issue notwithstanding: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-and...ssues/3461, Any client Could receive messages over the websocket and in fact Jellyfin for Android TV does so out of the box. I just did it

I'll have to test it out. I don't remember ever seeing it. Guess I'm wrong on that aspect.
