Hi,
New here, be gentle
I've been playing with Jellyfin (just music at present). I have for a very long time, ripped my CDs to MP3 and I have a very organised way of storing them on a PC under appropriately named folders e.g. "Albums", "Classical", "Special", "OST" etc. Each specific collection has relevant M3U playlists.
I have a Yamaha N-R303D receiver and what I wanted seemed, to me, to be simple enough:
· Play music from the PC to my receiver.
· Play any of my MP3s as single tracks, folders and, preferably, M3U playlists. I accept that systems differ and I might have to create different playlists using Jellyfin.
· Remotely access my MP3s so that I can select, control (play, pause, skip, fast forward, rewind etc.) and, perhaps above all, see what is playing.
I have installed Jellyfin on my Test PC (Win 10), put some test music on it, checked it works locally and then the following:
· Tried to connect my receiver to my PC via Bluetooth (it's physically close enough). This didn't work but it wasn't Jellyfin's fault.
· Installed Jellyfin client on my Android phone and connected a Bluetooth speaker to it. This worked but I couldn't get the streamed music to play for any period of time, it seemed to lock up and lose connection to the host (my test PC) whenever the phone locked.
· I tried to play MP3s directly on the Test PC and that works except that sometimes Jellyfin stops playing. I don't know why that is.
Is there a way I can simply remote control what's playing? Connection issues aren't that big an issue as I can run a physical lead from my Test PC to my receiver... as long as I can control Jellyfin remotely (preferably from my Android phone) and get information about what's playing, I'd be happy.
I'm not inexperienced (ex-IT support) but never really dealt with comms or with streaming all that much. Mainly a Windows person.
Thanks
J.
