Jellyfin is great and for the most part just sits there doing it's thing.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, but I seem to get this problem every 2 months or so.  I try to access the dashboard!

Then I can't remember my admin username/pw.  I think there is some issue that Firefox doesn't remember the creds.  Then I start searching up ways to find my username.  I try chatgpt (or web links) get irrelevant suggestions like /var/lib/jellyfin/data/users (which doesn't exist), I tried looking in the log file, but it seems to have expunged my admin user, and just shows guest.

Eventually I end up giving up and resetting the IsStartupWizardCompleted value in system.xml which has worked in the past.

Unfortunately I'm having less luck this time.  I can create a new user using the wizard.  But whatever name I give it it still seems to behave as guest.

Any idea how I can get my admin account back without completely re-installing?

    many thanks!

You can try unlocking your account with some database commands. Documented in the link below. Make sure you replace the placeholder usernames with your admin user's name.

Or fixing your admin account permissions, which is documented in the same link a bit further down.

Make sure you back up /var/lib/jellyfin before attempting.
