I am {activity we don't talk about - TDP} along with listening to music via Jellyfin Media Player, so cannot edit the files.

Does editing the metadata change the file or a separate data file?

Is there a way I can ensure I never edit my file but only some separate metatdata file?

Besides deleting files, Jellyfin has zero capability to edit media files. What you are editing is the metadata stored in Jellyfin's DB.
