Hi. Has anyone had issues with the official Local Intros plugin? Last time it worked for me was with JF 10.8.13 (and worked like a charm), but haven’t been able to make it work since 10.9.

The behavior is always the same: it does indeed play the pre roll video (double checked the permissions), but fails to play the movie afterwards. As soon as the pre roll video ends, it keeps on loading and nothing happens (black screen). The only way to play the movie, is to press the next button.

I don’t know what’s causing this behavior, but it can’t be the files and folders permissions, since Jellyfin can play both videos independently without any issue.

I’ll try to get some logs, but for the meantime, does anyone have an issue like this with this plugin? I’m using the official plugin from the official JF repo (Linux Mint, tried both with stable and unstable setup. Also with the newest plugin version and some older. Same result).

I also tried with other pre roll video plugins I found, but they don’t work either. I guess I can use the official one and press next every time the pre roll video ends, but that kind of defeat the purpose of the plugin.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: video codecs are as compatible as they can be (h264 8bits and aac). And like I said, both files play without problems independently, so it can be a codec issue either.

This is an issue with the client, not the plugin. Which client are you having issues with?

Sorry for the delayed reply. With all of them (in my , JFM, WebOS official app, iOS official app and Firefox. Since 10.9, you have to press the play next button for the movie start. If not, it just stays there, with black screen. 10.8.13 was the last version it worked for me. And since settings and files (pre roll videos, encoded with compatible codecs) are the same and only the version changed, I guess it has to be something with the plugin itself or some compatibility issue with my setup with the new version, idk really.

While you can say it’s still functional (it doesn’t freeze the client, if you press play next button the movie starts, and quickly), it kind of defeat the purpose of having a “trailer before the film” experience for example. But I don’t find other threads with users talking about issues (and I guess this must be a popular plugin), so I suppose it’s something about my setup. But it’s as default as a setup can be (and I’ve tried with stable and unstable server versions), so I really don’t know the cause. But it shouldn’t be the clients, it happens with at least four.

If I install a linux server from scratch, install its updates, install Jellyfin, leave everything at default, install the plugin from corresponding repo (stable vs unstable), restart the server, configure it to play a h264 8 bits with aac audio file as a pre roll video, the behavior mentioned happens. And with all clients. If others are not having this issue and I am, and with default settings for, well, everything, there must be something with my setup I guess. But I don’t know how to find out. I’ll try to get some logs.

Currently I’m using the last version of Linux Mint. But this didn’t start happening after an upgrade of the OS, it happened when I upgraded JF from 10.8.13 to 10.9 (and every version after that one, no matter if it’s a clean install). If I revert to 10.8.13, the plugin works as intended again, with the movie automatically starting after the pre roll video ends.

It’s the only issue I’m having with 10.9 versions now, everything else works like a charm, so even if it’s something about my setup, it’s plugin specific. And apparently nobody else seems to have it. Weird.

PS: permissions are correctly set. It shouldn’t be the problem anyway, as both the pre roll video and movie play as intended. It’s just that it gets stuck between them.

That is an issue with the client, not the plugin. The plugin just provides the intro. All of the clients you listed are web-wrapper clients, so it sounds like you are having issues with the web client.

But why could it be a client issue if they are all the same as before (official apps latest versions. Same devices also)? Nothing changed on that side. Some compatibility issue between the clients and 10.9 server version with my setup? What do you suggest I could try? I really don’t have a clue why it doesn’t work for me.

Weird thing is that with 10.8.13 it works as expected (that’s why I thought it was an issue related to the new server version or its compatibility with the plugin).

I just tried the same plugin. I see the same behavior. I start a movie, the local intro plays just fine. Then... blank screen. Until I actively go in and press "next".

I have so far tested it on the windows jellyfin client (not accessed through my browser). I have tried it in Firefox on windows. On the android phone app, it does skip automatically to the movie at the end of the intro. Same thing on the LGOS TV, works fine there. On the Android TV app (running on Nvidia Shield) on my main home cinema setup... it doesn't play the local intro at all, just goes to the movie directly.

Now... if we assume that it indeed is a client software issue... assuming the windows client app and browser are using the same playback software... where do I/we go from there? Or do I just have to conclude that this is one of the many plugins in Jellyfin that simply doesn't work as expected?

Working just fine here. It won't work if you use native video player (iOS)

    Hi:

I see that others are experiencing similar issues with the plugin. I haven’t been able to fix it (I even did a fresh server reinstall and nothing changes. I also tried with different types of libraries for the pre rolls, same behavior). Permissions are correctly set too, but that shouldn’t be the issue since both the pre roll video and the movie play, it’s just that it gets stuck at the end of the pre roll video and the movie doesn’t start until I press the play button.

And in my case, at least it happens with official iOS client (not using native player), JMP and WebOS app (and unlike the previous poster, in my case the behavior is consistent with all of them, pre roll plays and then gets stuck).

I really don’t have a clue why this happens (and also why it isn’t an issue for most of the users, my setup is as standard as it can get), nor what should I try to fix it. All I know is that it started happening when I upgraded the server version from 10.8.13 to 10.9, and never worked again since then (and when I go back to 10.8.13, it works as expected on all clients).

Any idea on what could be the cause and what can be done? I really want to use this plugin, but I don’t want to go back to 10.8.13 just because of this.

On a side note, the same happens when I use the CherryFloors Cinemamode plugin. Exact same behavior. Not sure if that info helps to troubleshoot this though.

    Thanks in advance.
