I am trying to move from Plex to Jellyfin.
I have some media encoded in HEVC (10 bit) with HDR. When I stream that to my Chromecast Ultra via Plex, it shows up in HDR on the TV, and the Plex status tells me both audio and video are direct streams.
When I start the same media from the Jellyfin app, on the same Chromecast, I do not get HDR and the video looks downscaled. When I go to the dashboard, I can see transcoding to h264 is going on.
This is the exact message behind playback info on the dashboard:
Why is Jellyfin transcoding my beautiful 4K HDR content, and what can I do about it?

Quote:The media is being converted into a format that is compatible with the device that is playing the media.
Framerate: 361fps
10.8 Mbps MKV H264 EAC3
Reason for transcoding: The video's bitrate exceeds the limit
