    Hello all,

I'm a (fairly) new user of Jellyfin and I'm primarily using it at the moment to access my own music collection again. If I'm asking for something ridiculous, please go easy on me... ;-)

At the moment, Jellyfin has a Suggestions tab/screen where it displays the latest added, recently played and frequently played tracks. But I was wondering whether it could help me 'rediscover' what's in my collection. I've got quite a collection of music and sometimes I'd like to just rummage around in the collection and pick more or less a random Album to play. So, in the suggestions window, I'd love for Jellyfin to display 5 (or so) random Album Artists, and/or 5 random albums (not related to the Album Artists), that I can then easily choose from and play. Just one random artist or album is too little choice, but the whole collection is too much, hence the 5 or so random suggestions. (Option: refresh, fetch 5 new items...)

Anything like that already present/possible in Jellyfin? Would/Could this be a plugin? Or does it really become a feature request?

    Thanks!

What client(s) and type of setup are you using? If using an Android phone, Symfonium does what you're asking out of the box (Rediscover is a default section on the home page). You can also create smart playlists that have criteria like 0 plays, not played in X days, track or album has certain genres. Smart playlists can also do by album or track, so if you're looking to rediscover entire albums, many at a time, you can set this up pretty easily.

Symfonium functions entirely as a client and can easily use Jellyfin as a source.

AFAIK, this is not possible in vanilla Jellyfin and I'm not able to find any plugins that do anything similar to this.

There is an existing feature request that is kind of related.

I shuffle my entire library to "rediscover" old songs, but it sounds like your library is much larger than my ~5700 song library.

@bitmap: Currently, I'm still using Jellyfin from my laptop, so with the standard User Interface. Haven't looked at what clients are best as media devices, though... but it'll probably need to be running on (old) Raspberry Pi's. Looking at Mopidy/mpd or similar, but I'm open to suggestions...

@TheDreadPirate: Okay, that's what I thought... Not even sure a plug-in would be able to do something like that... Something to look into, perhaps...

Still open to other reactions/ideas, of course!

"Feishin" & it's predecessor "Sonixd" are music players for Jellyfin & they both have an "explore from your library" section that generates random selections. I also use Jellyfin's "Instant Mix" feature to create a playlist when I want to explore music in my Library. I just pick a song or album that I feel suits my mood & select "Instant Mix"

Just to reply to my own question: it *is* possible to 'randomize' Albums within the Jellyfin UI, by using the "Sort By" option in the Albums view - that support a random sort order. That solves part of my request.
Unfortunately, there's no sorting option for the Album Artist view, so you cannot do a random sort there. It would be nice if that was made possible...
