    Hello all

    I have been using jellyfin for a few months now. It is currently installed as a jail in truenas scale and all works well thank you.

    Since i'm considering granting myself remote access to the jellyfin content (mostly music) in the very near future.

    I am looking ar different ways to access the Jellyfin server remotely

    In this respect i would like to investigate;

    If it is possible to install jellyfin as a separate VM  with in proxmox with a seperate IP?

    Will this make a vast difference in the performance of jellyfin?

    Do i need to install a gpu on my dell r720 server to performing transcoding (I do not seem to need one now)?

    Do i need transcoding to play my media on my android phone (again for music)?

    Thank you all in advance for any advice given
    Servers: Dell r720 128gb ram  2x 5690  24tb HGST
    Supermicro x10 32 gb ram 1 X 5675   20TB HGST
    Proxmox on all machines hosting OPNsense Home Assistant OS Truenas scale with Jellyfin  in a jail in truenas
    I still say to use less internet and use more cabernet (responsibly (only if driving))
    be well now

    Audio transcoding is always on the CPU and it isn't very intensive. You only need a GPU for video transcoding. And only if your device can't direct play the video.

    If you already have Jellyfin in a jail (do you mean container?) you should be able to change the networking type from host to bridge so that it has a separate IP.
