SOLVED: Chrome waiting on entire file download

Chrome seems to be waiting on the entire file to download before playing

Hi there, first time poster and a complete noob so bare with Smiling-face

While trying to get Jellyfin setup, I'm noticing extremely quick response times locally (as expected), but when it comes to accessing it remotely, the response times can be almost never-ending.

When I first load up a video, I sometimes get an infinite loading screen (or so it appears), that's because Chrome decides that it's not going to stream the video, and instead downloads the video in its entirety before playing. I've noticed the download go up to 500MB. (It still didn't play FYI I just got bored lol)

The Jellyfin docker image is currently sat behind Nginx RPM, but I doubt that'd be a cause of such a huge slowdown. My internet isn't phenomenal, but it is 25mbps upload and 250mbps download, which I assume is more than enough for just 1 connection (me) @ 720 fps 6mbps.

Here is a pastebin of the log during a supposed "infinite" load: https://pastebin.com/JT9VVX1J

Thank you for any help Smiling-face

Are you using any VPN or cloudflare proxies or anything like that?

I'm using a cloud flare proxy dns record.

No vpn on the server itself. I'm using one on my client, but I disabled it and tried again to the same result.

Edit: sorry, still new to the entire self hosting/networking scene. I'm using a dns record on cloudflare to point to Jellyfin for remote users to connect, if that's what you mean?

I just discovered cloudflare has some kind of tunneling system, which might be what you were referring to by vpn?

Yes. I only use cloudflare to register my domain and a DNS record. Nothing else. If you are using any of cloudflare's proxies or tunneling apps, those might be causing the issue you are seeing.

Then no sadly, I'm not using any cloudflare tunnels/proxies.

    - what OS is the client? (where chrome is running)
    - is it possible to use a jellyfin player for this instead of chrome?

    - Windows 11 Home (I think? Might be pro)

    - I'll try later tonight, didn't know there was a jellyfin player.

in fact, there are many clients - https://jellyfin.org/downloads

in my opinion, use of chrome for playback would be reserved for a case of 'have-to'

I've given it a little test - Jellyfin Media Player - not instant but still wayyyy faster than chrome. Think I'll just use this then Grinning-face

Thanks for your help, have a great day Smiling-face
