SOLVED: How To Remove Repeated Episodes?

Hello All,

I am in the process of re-organizing my media library. When re-adding everything back into Jellyfin, it mostly found the metadata and referenced the correct files without any issue.

Except on this one show. It keeps retaining the older file references, from how I had the files previously names (screenshots below). I did some searching and per the recommendation of a few others around the net, I have tried renaming the folder the files are contained (I'm sure that the files are using the proper Jellyfin naming scheme for season/episode name schemes per the Jellyfin documentation (pictures below).

This one show seems to refuse to refresh the metadata and remove the old episode listings. I have tried having Jellyfin scan all libraries and also tried having Jellyfin refresh the metadata on both this whole show and on the individual season. None of these functions seem to remove the older episode listings. This is the only show I have in my library that does this - everything else has the proper metadata. Is there any way to resolve this?

And what metadata source is this library using?

Its strange because I am not having any other issues with other shows in this library. Just this one.

Haha. Right? I've been feeling very nostalgic as late and have been revisiting some shows from my youth. This happened to be part that.

That AniDB ID doesn't match with the show. Try moving TMDB to be top priority and re-identify with TMDB ID 45264.

I tried what you suggested and it added a new listing for each of the episodes, rather than removing the old listings (even after refreshing the metadata for the show and doing a full library rescan - and telling Jellyfin to replace all current metadata).

Try moving the folder out of your library, rescan to remove it, change the folder name to "The Guyver [tmdbid-45264]", move it back into your library, rescan to re-add.

I tried removing the folder from the Anime subfolder I have on the drive completely. When I rescan the library, it isn't removing the show from the library.

I had to remove the subfolder from the associated folders listed with the library settings completely to get it to remove the show.

When I re-added the show with the recommended folder name, it resulted in the same thing: not removing the previous entries, but added a new listing for each show.

Could this pinpoint to any error? Is there a log I can pull to help pinpoint why this is happening?

Because of where I have files stored in my system, I have multiple subdirectories within my Anime folder added as a separate folder association in the Library settings (see the picture below - I did this because I do not wont everything within this directory to be indexed by Jellyfin). Could this be tied to what is causing problems (does Jellyfin struggle when there are too many folders added, for example)? If so, would it be worthwhile to re-organize this subfolder and just have Jellyfin associated with the root of the Anime folder?

This way of adding folders is 100% problematic and is almost certainly part of, if not the, problem. If you have folder in the Anime directory that you don't want added to Jellyfin, we have a mechanism to "ignore" folders.

Add an empty .ignore file in the directory you do not want added.

I went ahead and rebuilt the whole library (after restructuring the folders on the HDD). I now have this Jellyfin library pointing to a single "Anime" folder that houses all of the shows within, just like I do with my other Jellyfin libraries (Movies, Live Action shows, etc). This resolved the issue with the repeated Guyver issues. Thanks for helping me find the cause. I will go ahead and mark this issue as solved.

Just out of curiosity, so I have a better understanding of what is happening under the hood, why does adding multiple folders to the library cause this? Does the database just get confused?

The folder name is part of what is used to help identify a show/movie. Unless it is a library "root" folder, which is what happens when you add the show folder directly to the library configuration.
