Hi Jellyfin team,

First off, thank you for your incredible work on this amazing project. It's a fantastic media server and I (like many others) really appreciate all the effort you put into it.

I’d like to suggest a feature that would help improve the user experience for those of us who manage large, longstanding media libraries.
The issue:
Whenever a media file is modified — whether by updating metadata, changing the filename, or moving it to another folder — Jellyfin re-registers it as "Recently Added", even if the file has been in the library for years. This can clutter the "Recently Added" section with old content, which can be confusing or frustrating for users trying to track newly added material.
Proposed solution:
It would be great to have an option in the library settings that allows users to choose how "Recently Added" items are detected. For example:

• Only use the file’s original creation date (or a custom metadata tag, if available)
  
• Allow users to disable automatic updates to the “Recently Added” section upon file changes
  
• Provide a way to manually override or exclude specific items from appearing as “newly added”
  

This would be especially useful for users who are curating or cleaning up their libraries, but don’t want these actions to affect the sorting/display logic.
Why it matters:
Maintaining a consistent and relevant “Recently Added” list is important for both aesthetic and functional reasons, especially in multi-user households or public setups. Being able to control this behavior would make Jellyfin feel even more polished and user-friendly.

You can edit the "Date Added" field in the metadata to modify what shows up in that section if it helps. I kinda get why Jellyfin works like that when it has to scan and add things due to you modifying filenames/locations etc.

If you have an extensive media library you should really have metadata nfo files saved with each pice of media. Part of the metadata will have the date added field which wouldn't get updated unless you added a brand new file with new file name. Even then you can manually edit the NFO fole to change the dateadded field and then never have to worry about it again. I do this all the time.
