I recently checked out Swiftfin and was quite disappointed that the app hasn't been updated on the iOS store for nearly a year.

Major bugs like bug #582 (white swipe bar remains on screen) remain in the version on the App store, despite fixes being merged months ago on GitHub.

Is there a reason for the lack of updates and/or is there anything as a user I could do to help (e.g contribute towards $99/year dev account cost)?

I like the idea of swiftfin, but I've uninstalled it for now as from the user point of view (not many people will go hunting through bug reports on github) it looks like it's been abandoned in a broken state.

Swiftfin is still being actively developed. But, yes, the last release was 2022.

There is a newer testflight build from this past August if you want to help with testing.

Agree, swiftfin in not usable for now. Need to revert to plex until the app gets a good update with bug fixes. Really sad beacause I like jellyfin better.

    You could use Infuse.

I am interested in testing the testflight build.

Infuse is nagware. It refuses to play certain media in the "free" version as well.

It's disappointing that it continually is recommended as a valid substitute for those of us trying to get away from proprietary vendors.

It's not about the money.  I gladly donate to Jellyfin.  It's about software that doesn't treat end users poorly.

Swiftfin's Github has been quite active of late, and it looks like the developers are using Fastlane to automate some of their CI/CD and testflight stuff.  With any luck, this will mean we'll see improvements hitting tvOS devices soon.

I hope to see an update soon. Swiftfin is lacking many features that make its usage painful. I hope that one day it will reach the level Android/Google OS. Hopefully they will release an update soon.

Infuse is only "Nagware" if you are too cheap to pay $1/ month for great, regularly updated & constantly improved software. Apple TvOs is notoriously hard to work with - I think the people @ Firecore have done a tremendous job with their "Infuse" software & offer it at a tremendously reasonable price. They are the team who originally developed "Seas0nPass" - the free software that cracked the older Apple TV's to allow us all to install "Plex" before it was allowed on the "App Store". Kudos to them !

So is there any update for swiftfin in the near future? It is really barely useable on my AppleTV 4k 3rd gen.
When watching movies I get a lot of frame drops and stuttering which does not appear when playing the same files via Infuse.
Also in the current build of Swiftfin there is no way to sort by generes etc.
An update would be really important
