The letterboxing on android-tv app is grey

When I watch media with letterboxing the bars are grey rather than black. I can't find any settings to change this. I also can't find anyone with a similar issue other than a firefox plugin caused issue. 
The issue isn't present on other devices or when using an external player on the Firestick. I'm on the latest version of the app and jellyfin 10.10.0

The picture didn't come through. Do you have a Sony TV?

The image is updated. I have a westinghouse but its visible on abdlink2 so its not the tv

Just to verify, those bars are not present when watching them in something like VLC or MPV or MPC-BE?

Nope. They're black on external players. It's only the internal player that has the issue but the device doesn't support hevc decoding so they're not an option for me. (yes I should buy a newer device lol)

This is not a setting in Jellyfin nor in Android TV AFAIK. What version of Android is running? I see some bug reports in exoplayer from several years ago about grey bars when using exoplayer on HDR TVs.

It's Fire OS 5.2.9.5
The tv is also not HDR
