Hi. So far, I have a computer with disks connected to it, on which there are movies/series. The computer is connected to the TV via HDMI. I'm playing through VLC. I'm also confident that the 4K UHD video plays at full bandwidth without any issues. If I use Jellyfin, will it work in a similar way? From what I've been able to determine, Jellyfin will somehow decode a given video, so I'm wondering if more processing power will be needed? I would like to have Jellyfin because of the greater convenience in finding and browsing the videos I have. What would I need to do to build the simplest and most efficient server possible?
I'll also add that watching directly from the disk via VLC is just running the program and displaying the image. In Jellyfin, there is also transcoding of this material? If Jellyfin worked without it, it would be great for me.
