Vertical videos playing horizontally

I have some videos filmed in portrait mode, but when I play them, they're rotated 90 degrees. Jellyfin clearly knows the correct video orientation because the automatic thumbnails are all correctly oriented. It also seems to only happen on some videos and not others. Why could that be?

It should be fixed in Jellyfin 10.10.

Ah, thanks! I updated and it's working properly now. It doesn't look like 10.10 was needed. I went from 10.8 to 10.9.11.

Sorry to dig up an old thread here, but I've got the same problem when trying to play these through Jellyfin for Android TV with a lot of videos taken from our mobile phones.

The regular Jellyfin Android App doesn't seem to exhibit this issue.

Running server version 10.10.3.

Any suggestions for a way around this?

When you play the video on your Android TV, is it direct playing or transcoding. Regardless, it SHOULD be orientating the video appropriately with either playback method.

It's direct playing on every video I try.

Appears to work ok if I use the regular Android Jellyfin app on my phone, and my laptops web browser.

I did install MPV on Android TV and told Jellyfin to use that as external player. That did work, but the playback wasn't smooth as normal.
