I really want to switch to jellyfin from plex, but the one thing that keeps me from it, is user profiles.

In the past I’ve tried to set it up, but haven’t figured out a great workflow.

    My usecase is:

We have a couple of Apple TV’s and both myself, my wife and our son uses it. With Plex (and Netflix, hbo, Disney+ etc) whenever you open the app, you can select a profile for who’s watching.

I cannot seem to get this to work with jellyfin.

I’ve tried the default app (Swiftfin?) and Infuse but neither is making it easy to quickly switch to another profile.

We all use trakt to scrobble our tv usage and want to be able to only scrobble our own usage and not get someone else’s views to our trakt profile.

Is this even possible with Jellyfin?

AFAIK, Jellyfin does not support passwordless profile switching. I'm assuming that is what you are asking about.

Thanks for the reply. Doesn’t have to be passwordless (pin could be ok too) but just some way to select a profile / user without having to log out and back in again.

Ah, ok. I only have Android/Android TV devices and those clients support Quick Connect login/profile switching. Spoke with the Swiftfin dev and they said it doesn't support profile switching (yet) like the Android TV client does.

On the Android/Fire TV, switching between profiles works quickly, and in the settings there also options for remembering logins (switching without providing password again) and I think also for always asking who's watching when starting the app. So maybe try it out with a smart tv that runs Android TV (if you have one) or ask a friend about lending a android/fire tv stick to try it out? If you're happy with the experience, you could then try to get the people working on Swiftfin to implement such a feature.

There already is an issue for this in the Swiftfin repository: https://github.com/jellyfin/Swiftfin/issues/855
