Switch to 10.8.13. Lots of important security fixes and some clients require 10.8.10+.
Also, if you have Android or Android TV clients, DO NOT UPGRADE PAST THE CURRENT VERSION. 2.6.1 for Android and 0.16.11 for Android TV. Future versions will require 10.9.
As to your question about drive mapping. On plain Linux systems, your user would be UID and GID 1000. But that may not be the case for QNAP. Make sure you are using the correct UID/GID and that your UID/GID has permissions to the folders being used.
