From the checks made it seems that all permissions are enabled.
However I did another test that actually unraveled the mystery.
I installed jellyfin for kodi (the add-on for Kodi) and indeed the subtitles are seen. At this point I can only apologize, but evidently the problem is not related to the server but to the client is that correct?
So I understand that the internal players libvlc and ExoPlayer are not able to read subtitles (whatever extension they have, I tried rts and pgs).
Not even if I start playback from my jellyfin web page.
This works instead if you enable an external player. It gets a little slow and cumbersome and seems to lose some quality but if this is real I see no alternative.
