Another Question about Naming Files

Hello all.

So sorry for another question about an undoubtedly tired subject...

I'm moving to Jellyfin from Plex. I should have done it a long time ago, Jellyfin is excellent.

I collect films from the 1920's - 1950's and normally just access files through Windows Explorer. I ran Plex for friends and relatives to see what's in my collection, mostly, and that's what Jellyfin would be for. Also, occasionally to watch something when I'm traveling. I like to have my files organized chronologically in my movies folder. I name the files like this: 1934 - Twentieth Century.mp4 or 1934 - Twentieth Century (BluRay).mp4 so I can sort the files in Windows by year.

Plex's file naming requirements ask for something completely different, but I gave it a go anyway and it worked just fine. Plex was able to retrieve metadata for all of my films. I hoped that would be the same with Jellyfin, but it seems not. Unless there's something else I can do, or install.

Starting the movie name by the year isn't a good ideia, if the movie is 1984 (the movie) and then you have another movie from same year, jellyfin will consider that's two versions of the name movie.

I do know how Jellyfin likes the movies to be named, I was just wondering if anyone could think of a workaround to accommodate my personal file naming preference.

And that's not what happened when I had Jellyfin fetch metadata. After the search, most movies don't have any metadata at all, but some do. For example, the file named "1941 - The Big Store.mkv" matched just fine, but "1941 - H.M. Pulham Esquire.avi" did not.

Your naming is format is not supported and is not expected to work. The parser may identify some, but it is not guaranteed to work. You can append the movie provider to the folder or file name like this example for better results: Film (2010) [imdbid-tt0106145].mp4 or Film (201 [tmdbid-65567]
