Hi,
New to Jellyfin (but loving it so far) but have a problem, googled for answer but can't find it so a post here.
Take a look at this screenshot from mp3tag, showing some of the songs on 2 different 'The Glory Of Love' albums: 'Volume 2' and 'Volume 3'. Note that the 'Album Artist' fields are empty.
As you can see the filed are named following the same pattern:
track number - album name - artist - song title
And all songs on both albums have both their ID3v1 and ID3v2.3 tags set. That's 3 ways that Jellyfin can get information about the songs: from filename, from ID3v1 tag or ID3v2.3 tag.
And indeed Jellyfin does parse the data correctly and if I look at the metadata for eg the first song on each album I correctly see this:
and
Not sure why Jellyfin fills the 'Album artists' field as well when they are empty in the tags but you can see the metadata for both files is correct. So I would expect both songs to be displayed in Jellyfin in the same way. And that's where it goes wrong.
How it's displayed for Volume 2:
How it's displayed for Volume 3:
As you can see Volume 3 also displays the artist of every song on the album below the song title. That is what I would always want to be the case. Yet an estimated 90% of albums with various artists are displayed without the artist name below the song and only the rest with the artist name.
Since there is no difference whatsoever in how the files are named, the tags are organised or the metadata as Jellyfin has it it is a total mystery to me why for one album Jellyfin decides to display the artist name and not for the other album.
Is there anyone who could tell me what I am missing here?
Also, is there a way to display "Various Artists" (the literal text) below the album name instead of 'artist a/artist b/artist c/artist d/etc.' ?
Thanks in advance for a reply!
