    Hello!

When trying to decode HEVC channels ffmpeg fails to start encoding. This is any HEVC ATSC 3.0 Channels using the HDHomeRun Flex 4k by silicon dust (network tuner). I've created a ticket (https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-ffmpeg/issues/529), but they are telling me to try it on a more powerful machine. The thing is, I can transcode other 4k HEVC movies just fine. It's also worth noting that all of the other channels work fine. This is on web and androidTV.

Does anyone else have this issue?

    Thanks!

    Edited for correct link.

    OP is mentioning this: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-ffmpeg/issues/529

It is clear from the log that the stream coming from that channel is crashing your hardware decoder. The reason I asked you to try with a more power machine is to see if the software decoder can decode that problematic stream as a workaround. Your system can decode something else means nothing for this specific stream from this specific channel because the ones that work with your system don't have a stream that will crash the hardware decoder. If the stream crash the hardware decoder and not even native ffmpeg decoder can work with that, I don't know what else can I do seriously as I have no access to that stream anyway.

I have a gaming windows machine that I can try it on, but I was mainly asking if anyone else can use the HEVC channels before I went down the path of installing it on a more powerful machine.

And yes, this is the link: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-ffmpeg/issues/529

    I do appreciate your help!

I will say that recording a show and playing it once recorded works just fine.

Posting an update here incase anyone else comes searching for this in the future.

The default probe size for ffmpeg was set at 1G, which for HEVC streams may take a long, long time to get to. I updated a jellyfin environment variable to take the probe size down to 5M (which may be too small). 10M is preferred, but it takes 20+ seconds for the stream to start at a 10M probe size.

    Details here: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-ff ... 2647621625

This worked really well, and I'm not experiencing any audio sync issues.

    Thank you @gnattu!
