hi guys i'm new to this

jf works pretty well for me except the dovi files. On phones or pc when I watch it doesnt have the green tint. I checked the playback info and its transcoded and doesnt have the green tint. I also have a LG C2 TV but when I try to watch dovi files it it always has this green/purple hue on it. I read above its because of the container mkv but is it possible in the future, can we have a flag that transcode the dovi files automatically instead of manually doing it?

I use a 1070ti gpu to run jf, pretty sure that supports the hevc 10bit 4:2:0. I dont know what the dolby requires, do I need to upgrade gpu so I dont have to deal with conversion? Thanks.

has nothing to do with mkv, it's just a container format and fully supports DV
has everything to do with DV supported by your client device (LG C2)
afaik jellyfin transcoding does not retain dolby vision so no transcoding will not help

there are 3 main profiles of DV, 5,7 and 8, a lot of devices fail to play profile 7 which is mainly used by 4k bluray

need to find out what profiles your TV supports and what client is being used
if using the LG app directly on the TV then im pretty sure it's just a web wrapper and very unlikely to support DV *at all*

need to find out if LG is being transcoded
potentially setup tonemapping on the server

in summary, it's your chosen client software and client device not mkv or the server

The only time containers matter is DV5, which requires it to be in a MP4 container. For other DV profiles it is dependent on the device and client supporting it.

It's likely that your device is not properly determining that it needs a transcode. Which I've also experienced on various devices playing back DV. I'm in the process of figuring out how to convert everything to HDR10.

Is there any way to add a setting in the plex dashboard, which allows users to choose if they want to watch the contend in HDR or DV? My Sony X95L also struggles with DV content, even if it supports it.
All colors look washed out and there are no real blacks at all when watching such a movie

for questions regarding plex refer to their forums https://forums.plex.tv

as far as *jellyfin, this is a client side setting not a server side and generally clients don't have this setting

@TheDreadPirate you have been trying to convert DV for months now, have a look at dovi_tool to strip the DV layers https://github.com/quietvoid/dovi_tool
a lot of (or most of) will have HDR10 fallback and without the DV meta that's where it will land

Sorry, I meant is there a way to add a setting in the Jellyfin dashboard. I was just writing this because I have the same issue on Plex too, but that option would be great for Jellyfin too Smiling-face

I've figured out most of the process.  But I'm struggling with the final output file where I am unable to skip in the video properly.  It will take forever and when it actually does there is no sound.  Something about frame time stamps.  The solutions I've found regarding that haven't worked, so still researching.
