I doubt it. In vlc I have the slightest bit (not even noticeable, until I actually started checking) of banding and in mpv it is completely fine (under Wayland). Just for testing sake, I used my old X environment, and the video looked completely fine.

So it's either my wayland or graphics setup/session or the jellyfin media player not playing nice with wayland.

The weird thing is that it's never really consistent between applications.

Wish I had my Linux workstation setup to test this. The Jellyfin Media Player, I'm pretty sure, is utilizing MPV underneath it.
Is it installed via Flathub or .deb from the github?

My distro uses the Github version, but I've also tested the flatpak which has the same issue. It indeed uses mpv underneath the hood, but as you can see from my initial screenshot, the quality difference is noticeable between the player and mpv (same quality as plex).

My understanding is that MPV in Jellyfin Media Player renders differently than MPV does.

But we do have Jellyfin-MPV Shim that has a different render pipeline than JMP.

    https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-mpv-shim

Give that a try. There are flatpaks for Linux.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
Just set it up and made it auto cast, works great!
Not an ideal solution to the problem, but I can live with it.
