I was looking at the documentation for codecs and saw the reference of FFMPEG use to convert potentially unsupported file types. I could not understand if this works on the system level at the original file or just for the user. I had a search around. I understand this is a dumb question but I have files I need to preserve the codecs of. I just want to check before I move my data over. I think I'd cry if any of it got changed as it's years of content.

Jellyfin temporarily saves the compatible file in the transcode directory. It does not edit the original file in place.
