The main issue with removing syncplay ever since it's been determined to be buggy is that there wouldn't be much effort put into adding a proper implementation.
If it was removed, nothing would have been done to replace it. So the current code for it remains for those that can still use it at least.
Syncplay will probably be worked on in the future, but there's still no timeline as to when we could expect to see movement with it.
