    Hi, I'm Tom,
I am coming over from Plex, which is the service I have been using for the better part of 10 years now.  All I want is to be able to view my own files, on my own device, where-ever I am.   It looks like Jellyfin is the best going alternative.  The reviews I've read are very promising, and the community here seems nicer than Plex.   I look forward to learning how to best optimize my server, and meeting all of you.

    Thank you for having me

    Tom

    Hello, I'm Hyatt,

I've been testing out Jellyfin and Jellyseer with a full {apps we don't talk about - TDP} on my laptop and I'm very satisfied with it. Tailscale is used to funnel the Jellyfin and Jellyseerr apps out of network and ensure I can host anytime without needing modify the settings of whichever router I am connected to. I can effortlessly host my media server wherever I travel! I limit the outbound rate to 10mbps per user and transcode everything on the fly using Apple's VideoToolbox HW encode. I have been really happy with the results.

    Eat your heart out, Plex!

    Hi! Im Chris.

I basically got into this because my career field shat the bed temporarily so Ive been unemployed for quite some time. Thought I would get into self hosting and see if I could be competent enough to do it. First it started with self hosted CCTV and when cost prevented me from doing so, I stumbled upon Jellyfin! I hope to learn as much as I can not only about Jellyfin, but what ever I can from you all.

    Hey, I'm Robyn from Canada.

I am currently running Jellyfin strictly as a music screaming service. My Server is on a cheap MiniPC (Win11) with a 4TB portable HDD. Which is plenty of space for strictly music. I keep my media to a specific file type to avoid any extra processing, as I am unsure if the MiniPC can handle it.

At the time of posting this, it has been running for 4 months with only "learning curve" based errors.

So far everything has been great. I've picked up a lot of tips and tricks along the way. However I am here to learn more. Mainly in the way of customizations as tutorials out there seem to be all Linux based, which I know nothing about. I've been a Windows person since Windows 3.1, and know how to keep it on a leash.

    Hello,

I had success installing Jellyfin on a dedicated Debian VM in Proxmox using the official, amazing, one-line script at:

    https://jellyfin.org/downloads/server/

I'm running TrueNAS SCALE as a storage server for all my media as well as VM disks for high availability.

I'm using Proxmox Backup Server for backups.

Nothing is public facing. I use a self-signed certificate for local security. Access is managed with Tailscale.

I would eventually like to learn how to migrate some treasured family videos from old VHS tapes onto my Jellyfin server to make them more accessible to my family.

I'm quite happy with my setup and very grateful to the volunteers who maintain this beautiful software.

    Cheers,

    Hey guys,
I am the Bow-Tie Guy from Germany. Got my Synology NAS about two weeks ago which was very exciting. I am using Jeyllfin now ... coming form Libreelec on a Raspberry Pi 4. I used the PI4 now together with the Jellyfin Plugin to stream my Jellyfin media.
I only use the Pi cause it´s directly connected to my AV Receiver for having 5.1 sound.

    A very exciting time .... ;-)

Hi all, I am Robert, and I have been using Jellyfin for some time along with Plex but over the last year I have ditched Plex and just use Jellyfin. I run a Jellyfin server on an N100 mini PC and it is able to hardware transcode everything needed very efficiently. I use many different clients including some Zidoo media boxes where I use the Zidoo as the external player, FireTV 4K sticks run Jellyfin client on most of my TV's, and on my PC's I use the Jellyfin Media player. Currently I am trying to output from Jellyfin to PotPlayer on a media PC which was why I joined the forum to talk about that in one of the threads.

G'day cobbers, I'm an Aussie Frontend Developer running Jellyfin on Unraid with Jellyseer and the usual Arrs. I'm watching on Android TV and various browsers through the house, although hoping to get tailscale running soon to share the love with a few mates. Like many, I was using Plex, but with their recent changes thought I'd spin up a Jellyfin container on the NAS and loved it!

I thought I'd sign up to the forums mainly to get a bit of insight on contributing to project after my first PR was approved and merged today (don't get too excited, it was a just single string update). So yeah feel free to reach out about any issues a frontend dev could help out with.
